Student recreation and ISSO sponsor trip to Asheville and North Carolina mountains

Join student recreation and ISSO staff for our second annual summer break mountain trip to Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest, and Mount Mitchell. The group will depart 8 a.m., Monday, June 17, bound for Sweet Peas Hostel in downtown Asheville. The departure location will be announced later. Once in Asheville, we'll leave at 3 p.m. for the Asheville Folk Art Center, and then we'll take a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River.

Tuesday, June 18, we'll depart for DuPont State Forest's waterfalls, including High Falls and Triple Falls. In the afternoon, the group will venture into Pisgah National Forest and the Cradle of Forestry, which is a historic site that commemorates the beginning of forest conservation in the United States. After exploring Pisgah National Forest and enjoying a picnic lunch, we will head down the mountain and swim at Sliding Rock. Dinner Tuesday evening will be on your own in the town of Brevard.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, we'll depart downtown Asheville bound for Savannah, returning by mid afternoon.

This trip is packed with lots of hiking and outdoor activity and is limited to the first 10 students to sign up.

Cost is only $75 per person thanks to a generous donation provided by student recreation. Included in the cost are transportation, two night's lodging and a picnic lunch in Pisgah National Forest. A full kitchen is available in the hostel. Other meals, Sliding Rock fees and other expenses are on your own.
