In this Next Generation Painting Challenge, participants will create a fully realized painting, from inception to completion, in four hours. This is an opportunity to be creative and have fun while demonstrating skill as a visual artist. SCAD Hong Kong will provide all of the necessary resources, including paint, canvas and brushes. All entrants need to do is be ready to paint and express their creative voices.
Upon arrival, entrants will be briefed on how to compose their paintings and apprised of the judging criteria for the competition. They will begin by selecting an object from those provided and identifying its essential visual qualities. Each entrant’s task is to then reinterpret or reimagine the qualities that define the object. They should consider form, color, shape, pattern, line or any visual element that can be changed, reversed, repeated or discarded. Creative reinvention is the key to this project. Professor Dave Smith will be in the studio during the challenge, should anyone need any assistance or guidance. Painting-appropriate clothes are recommended.
