The annual Smithsonian Craft Show is a juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American crafts. Three jurors, who are experts in the field and newly selected each year, choose 121 artists from a large pool of applicants. Artists may apply in any of 12 media categories including basketry, ceramics, decorative fibers, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, wearable art and wood, and are selected on the basis of originality, artistic conception and quality of work.
Proceeds from the show, produced by the Smithsonian Women’s Committee, fund grants that benefit the Smithsonian’s education, outreach and research programs.
The show does not charge sales commissions. However, accepted artists are encouraged to donate an item for the show's online auction and raffle, proceeds of which benefit the Smithsonian.
