Student workshop with author, poet and artist Austin Kleon

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Austin Kleon will speak to students about his book, "Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative." The book teaches readers how to study the work of personal heroes and transform that inspiration into something new. "Steal Like An Artist" pushes creators of all kinds to start producing. After seeing Kleon's found poetry collection, "Newspaper Blackout," Broome Community College invited him to speak to students. For his talk, Austin shared the 10 things he wished someone had told him when he was in college, most notably, "steal like an artist." When Austin posted the slides from that presentation on his website, they went viral instantly. Kleon's work has been featured on NPR, PBS, the Wall Street Journal. Kleon speaks about creativity, visual thinking and being an artist at SXSW, TEDx and The Economist. The workshop is open to SCAD students. Advanced registration with Lee Barry Todd is required. Seating is limited. For more information, call 404.253.3324.
