"Stretching the Limits: Fibers in Contemporary Painting"
Monday, Oct. 22, 2012-Sunday, March 24, 2013
601 Turner Blvd.
"Stretching the Limits: Fibers in Contemporary Painting" highlights artists who are exploring fibers-based media within the language of painting. This group exhibition broadens the dialogue of contemporary painting practices by showcasing the ways in which formal considerations such as color, texture and composition are created with thread, fabric, clothing and sculptural manipulations of canvas. These explorations also connect artistic processes to the various conceptual underpinnings of each work, including the history of painting and its relationship to the body.
Artists include: Ghada Amer, Tom Burr, Kendell Carter, Nick Cave, Angelo Filomeno, Vibha Galhotra, Sam Gilliam, Sheila Hicks, Emil Lukas, Elaine Reichek, Amanda Ross-Ho, Analia Saban and Shinique Smith.
Presented as part of the 2013 deFINE ART program
Reception: Tuesday, Feb. 19, 6:30-8 p.m.
The exhibition is free with SCAD Museum of Art admission.
The reception is free and open to the public as part of the deFINE ART gallery hop.
