Tuesday, Sept. 9

Shuttles to the Savannah Civic Center depart the residence halls on the following schedule:

New international student check-in
8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Savannah Civic Center, second floor, 301 W. Oglethorpe Avenue
International students may register to take the SCAD Language Studio Accuplacer test, move into the residence halls, and complete SEVIS check-in procedures with the international student services office (ISSO) staff. 

Open a bank account
9 a.m.–2 p.m.
Savannah Civic Center, second floor
Representatives from area banks are available to answer questions and open accounts.

SCAD Museum tour
10 a.m.
Depart Oglethorpe House for a tour of the SCAD Museum of Art with your international orientation assistants. 

ISSO sponsored shopping trip to Target
10 a.m.
Buses depart Oglethorpe House at 10 a.m. and return by 1 p.m.

Lunch
Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Served at J.O.’s cafeteria, Oglethorpe House

SCAD Language Studio placement test
2 p.m.
Pre-registration required
Group will depart the Savannah Civic Center by bus for Accuplacer testing at D at the Hive computer lab. 

ISSO sponsored shopping trip to Walmart
5 p.m.
Buses depart Oglethorpe House at 5 p.m. and return to campus by 8 p.m.

Shuttle service from the Savannah International Airport (airport code SAV) to the residence halls and Habersham Hall will be offered throughout the day. 

Wednesday, Sept. 10

Shuttles to the Savannah Civic Center depart the residence halls on the following schedule:

  • Montgomery House, 8 a.m.
  • Barnard Village, 8:10 a.m.
  • The Terrace, 8:20 a.m.
  • Boundary Village, 8:50 a.m.
  • The Hive/Turner Annex, 9 a.m.

Join ISSO staff and international orientation assistants for optional orientation sessions to include the following topics:

  • Learn about life in a classroom from a SCAD professor
  • Meet representatives from the on campus student employment office
  • Take an interactive tour of how university transportation shuttles work during the academic quarter and download the Transloc app to your mobile phone
  • Understand the importance of how your SCAD card works
  • Register for FERPA release for parents

SCAD Language Studio placement test
3:30 p.m.

Buses depart Oglethorpe House for a tour of SCAD academic and non-academic buildings.    

Mandatory International Student Services Office orientation
11 a.m.
Johnny Mercer Theatre
ISSO orientation is a program for all incoming international students in F-1 or J-1 student status, including freshman, transfer and graduate students. Orientation is designed to help students learn about and understand important immigration regulations and procedures required of F-1 and J-1 students, confirm their arrival for required government reporting purposes, and to assist with adjusting to life at SCAD Savannah.

SCAD Language Studio placement results and orientation

This session is mandatory for students who took the Accuplacer placement test.

Financial and academic success advisers
2:30–5:30 p.m.
Savannah Civic Center, second floor conference rooms
Meet with Student Financial Services and Academic Success Advisers and pay all final university fees for fall quarter.

International student and parent BBQ
5–6:30 p.m.
Savannah Civic Center, patio (rain location, SCAD Student Center)
Join ISSO staff, faculty and students for an evening of BBQ and acoustic music.     

This concludes the ISSO portion of orientation. You are required to now attend the all-school orientation based on the schedule according to your admission status as a freshman, transfer or graduate student. At all-school orientation, you will have the opportunity to join domestic new students as you begin your journey toward a creative career. 

Friday, Sept. 12

Freshman orientation
8 a.m.-11 a.m.
Savannah Civic Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Arena
Freshman students must check in and join the all-college orientation program.

Captain Mike's Dolphin Tour (for graduate and transfer international students only)
11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Bus departs at 11 a.m. for Tybee Island. Come aboard Capt. Mike's Dolphin Tours and watch bottlenose dolphins playing in their natural habitat. These fun loving, aquatic mammals are the most intelligent of creatures next to man and are unusually friendly. They frequently come right up to the boat! The $20 fee includes transportation to Tybee Island and back as well as the dolphin tour. Pre-registration is required and limited to the first 30 paid participants.

Shopping trip to Target
10:30 p.m.
Buses depart Turner House and will make continuous loops.
Target will open for two hours exclusively for SCAD students. 

Saturday, Sept. 13

All-college orientation
8 a.m.-11 a.m.
Savannah Civic Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Arena
Graduate and transfer students must check in and join the all-college orientation program.

Monday, September 15

ISSO and ISA new and returning welcome reception, Habersham Hall courtyard
