Cinema Studies

The foundational nature of SCAD's cinema studies program follows a linear path of history, aesthetics and theory. Students gain a firm grasp of the essentials needed to explore the silver screen.

Master of arts in cinema studies

The graduate program at SCAD prepares students to pursue many career options: entertainment industry journalists, producers, agents and critics; film festival and museum curators, programmers, archivists and preservationists; and professors, cultural historians and authors.

Visiting industry professionals

The cinema studies department invites industry professionals to visit SCAD and speak with students, providing direct access to potential employers, internship opportunities, or career advice.

The SCAD-sponsored Savannah Film Festival is another opportunity for networking with industry professionals and is a major event for the cinema studies department each year. These events, coupled with a rigorous curriculum familiarize students with the language, genres, alternative modes, and national and ethnic thematic motivations to truly understand the traditions and theory of cinema.
