Pollock-Krasner Foundation CEO to speak at Trustees
The Savannah College of Art and Design presents "Supporting Creativity for Individual Visual Artists: The Pollock-Krasner Foundation's Grant Program," a lecture by foundation chairman Charles Bergman, March 25 at 7 p.m., at Trustees Theater. The lecture is presented by the Trustees Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

The lecture will address the importance of private support for visual and other artists, as well as the function of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and its International Grant Program. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation was established in 1985 under the will of Lee Krasner, a leading Abstract Expressionist painter and widow of acclaimed artist Jackson Pollock. The foundation is the largest foundation ever created exclusively to aid worthy and needy visual artists internationally.

Bergman, chairman of the board and chief executive office of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc., is associated with several other art organizations, including the Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission of New York City, to which he was appointed by Mayor Bloomberg; the New York State Council on the Arts, to which he was appointed by New York Governor George Pataki; the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in Miami; the board of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc. in New York; the board of the Very Special Arts in Washington D.C.; the advisory boards of a number of foundations and trusts in the United States and England; and health and human services boards throughout New York City focusing on HIV/AIDS.

In addition, Bergman is senior advisor to Foursome Investments, Ltd. in London, where he advises families on corporate social responsibility and philanthropy.

Computer viruses run rampant
The network services department has detected and provided protection against a number of new viruses but the rate at which new viruses are currently being created is unprecedented. Most of these viruses are written so there is little protection against them during the first few hours that they spread.

To protect against being infected by viruses transmitted by e-mail, users should not open any attachment that they are not expecting, or that the sender has not confirmed. Most viruses forge the sender's name. If users receive any e-mail claiming to be from "The SCAD.EDU Team," they can safely ignore this message. This is a virus.

If you have any concerns, contact the helpdesk at helpdesk@scad.edu.

Weston/Dyson lot no longer available for summer vehicle storage
Students, faculty and staff are no longer able to utilize the Weston/Dyson parking lot for storing their vehicles during summer break. This change is effective immediately. Students, faculty and staff are required to move their vehicles to alternate, off-SCAD premises as of the last day of school. Failure to move a vehicle results in towing and storage fees.

It is also requested that all students collect their bicycles by the last day of school. Any bikes left on campus during summer break will be removed permanently. Cooperation is appreciated. For more information, call SCAD transportation and parking services at 525-PARK or e-mail parking@scad.edu. This change has been made to allow the physical resources department quick and easy access for scheduled summer cleaning, renovation and upgrades.

Fill out form to reserve space and resources
To reserve space on campus (this includes using a classroom for an event), or to host an off-campus event, contact the reservation department at 525-5080 or e-mail the request to reserve@scad.edu. Upon receiving approval in writing for your event, you must fill out and submit the Physical Resources Reservation Form two weeks prior to the event. The form is inclusive of all event-related departments and is available online at myscad.scad.edu under Physical Resources on the Employee Forms page.

Space, security, staff and equipment are limited, so it is important to reserve the space and submit the completed form ahead of time. Also, timely and complete forms assist us in being more cost-efficient for the entire college.

Following these steps will ensure proper labor management and result in much less overtime pay. Contact Jodi Wilson at reserve@scad.edu if you have any questions about the process.

AV scholarships now available
The International Communications Industries Association, Inc.®, premier trade association for the professional audiovisual communications industry, has announced the availability of $60,000 in scholarship funds for college and high-school students for the 2004/2005 academic year.

This year's awards are offered in amounts of $2,500 to college seniors completing bachelors' degrees or students in their final year of study for associate degrees, $1,500 to dependents of employees of ICIA member companies and $500 to high school seniors.
