Medical coverage
Nothing is more important than your good health. That is why SCAD offers medical plans designed to help you and your family live healthier lives. You have a choice of three plan options that help protect you from costly and unexpected medical expenses.

Prescription drug coverage
If you enroll in a SCAD medical plan, prescription drug benefits are included. Your prescription drug coverage is in the form of a three-tier benefit structure based on a formulary. Your copay varies, based on the type of prescription.

Dental coverage
The SCAD dental plan is designed to help you pay for most necessary dental services and supplies, including diagnostic and preventive care, such as exams, cleanings and X-rays, and basic and major restorative services, such as fillings, crowns and dentures, subject to age and frequency limits.
Vision coverage
SCAD offers a basic voluntary vision plan from Avesis, which covers eye exams, prescription lenses and frames or contact lenses for you and your family. Although you may select any licensed provider, you receive the highest level of benefits when you see a network provider.

Flex Card
  • Health care spending account-this account allows you to set aside money to pay for eligible health care expenses not covered by your health insurance such as deductibles, copays and other health-related expenses that you pay out of your own pocket for you and your family.
  • Dependent care account-this account allows you to reimburse yourself for eligible expenses incurred for dependent day care and elder care expenses.

401(k) plan
The SCAD 401(k) plan is offered to SCAD Group Inc. employees. SCAD Group will match a percent of what you contribute to the plan.

403(b) plan
The SCAD 403(b) plan is offered to full-time Savannah College of Art and Design faculty and staff members. SCAD will match a percent of what you contribute to the plan.
Supplemental retirement plan
The SCAD supplemental retirement plan is offered to full-time faculty and staff based on certain eligibility requirements.

Employee basic term life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance (AD&D)
SCAD pays for basic term life insurance for you in the amount of one times your annual earnings up to $400,000. If your death is due to an accident, your beneficiary will receive an additional amount through AD&D equal to your life insurance coverage amount. The payable amount of your AD&D benefit depends on the type of loss.

Short-term disability (STD)

If an illness or injury prevents you from working, STD coverage will provide you with a percentage of your weekly earnings. Unum administers SCAD STD benefits and SCAD pays 100 percent of the premium for you.
Long-term disability (LTD)
Long-term disability coverage continues a portion of your income if you become unable to perform your regular job duties for an extended period due to illness or injury. LTD works with Social Security and any other group disability coverage to provide you with a percentage of your monthly earnings for the length of your disability. Unum administers SCAD LTD benefits and SCAD pays 100 percent of the premium for you.

Employee-paid additional life and AD&D
You may purchase additional life and AD&D insurance.

Dependent life insurance
You may purchase life insurance for your spouse or same-sex domestic partner.
Voluntary critical illness insurance
If you or a family member suffers a critical illness, you can be hit hard with immediate medical expenses and reduced income from being out of a job. Medical benefits pay part of the medical bills. Disability coverage helps replace income. However, many immediate expenses may not be covered. Critical illness insurance can help relieve the financial impact of a sudden life-threatening event by helping to pay the direct and indirect costs of the illness.
