SCAD Defined Monica CookThe Savannah College of Art and Design’s communications department is using a "SCAD Defined" advertising campaign utilizing accomplished alumni such as Jimmy O’Neal, Monica Cook and Julio Garcia, and undergraduate and graduate students such as Yana Dimitrova and Michael Scoggins.

"'SCAD Defined' is a collaborative idea that involved input from the college's design staff and guidance from SCAD President Paula S. Wallace and the college administration," said David Duran, creative director for college printing. "The publications editors brainstormed together and came up with the dictionary definition concept of 'SCAD: (n) see Art,' and that was the beginning."

The purpose of the campaign was to promote student work, draw attention to alumni achievements and emphasize the artists participating in the college’s Distinguished Faculty Program.

"We are familiar with being defined in terms of how people experience the college. Literally, how do they see, touch and hear SCAD?" said Bruce Chong, dean of communications. "Mostly it is through people — our faculty, students and alumni — and that is why the campaign is focused on those areas."

The campaign will evolve to incorporate a variety of definitions and ideas, including the college’s permanent collection and museums, as well as community service and partnerships.
