SCAD Welcomes ACA Faculty

When the Atlanta College of Art joined the Savannah College of Art and Design, several ACA faculty and staff members also joined the SCAD-Atlanta roster, including:

Tom Francis — Francis’ students will benefit from his more than 30 years of experience as an educator and a professional artist. His work has been featured in galleries and museums throughout the Southeast, including the High Museum of Art and the SunTrust Gallery in Atlanta and the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, Miss. It has also been displayed in Paris and Toulouse, France, and in Rome. He was published in the book “100 Years of Painting in Georgia.” He previously served as head of the ACA painting department 1978-94, 1995-2002 and 2003-06.

Rick Lovell — Lovell will continue to share his passion for illustration with students at SCAD-Atlanta. Since starting his own business in 1981, he has created book covers, posters, packaging and editorial illustrations for an impressive list of clients including Kellogg’s, Nike Design and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. His work has won numerous awards, including several Communication Arts Awards of Excellence, and recognition from the Society of Illustrators and the Art Directors Club of Houston.

Carl Parrish — Parrish will teach literature and writing to incoming first-year students this fall after spending his summer conducting research in Dublin, Ireland. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and a Master of Arts degree in English at Emory University. After working several years in California, he returned to Georgia in the early 1980s to became an adjunct professor at the Atlanta College of Art, where he initially taught one literature course. Because he enjoyed teaching art students, he decided to stay. Eight years later, he became head of the liberal arts department at ACA.
