Proficiency is required in reading and translation of French, Italian, Spanish or German. Students can meet this requirement by passing the language exam administered by the department. Students also must pass a comprehensive architectural history exam as part of the degree requirement.

Patricia Kuhn publishes chapter

Patricia Kuhn (B.F.A., architectural history, 2000) published a chapter, "J. W. Marriott and the Development of the Motor Hotel," in Housing Washington: Two Centuries of Residential Development and Planning in the National Capital Area.
McWilliams begins Ph.D. at University of York

In fall 2010 Evan McWilliams (B.F.A., architectural history, 2008; M.A., architectural history, 2010) began his Ph.D. in art and architectural history at the University of York, where his research focuses on the study of churches of the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose designs were influenced by what are commonly known as the English Use liturgies.
Walker pursues Ph.D. in architectural history

Nathaniel Walker (M.A., architectural history, 2006) is pursuing his Ph.D. in architectural history at Brown University, and delivered a paper titled "A Slave in His Place: Racial Regulation and Segregation in the Savannah Squares" at the annual meeting of the Society of Architectural Historians in New Orleans on April 15, 2011. He is the first SCAD architectural history alumnus to present at this national conference.
