Architectural History Department's Fifth Savannah Symposium
Pepe Hall, 212 W. Taylor St., Savannah, Ga.
The Savannah College of Art and Design architectural history department hosts its Fifth Savannah Symposium. The Savannah Symposia were conceived as a forum for scholarly discourse about themes related to architecture and urbanism across historical periods, cultures and disciplines. The theme for this symposium is "Building in the Public Realm," allowing consideration not only of the various manners in which architecture and space are and have been constructed for use outside of private contexts, but also of how various "publics" are formed, transformed, sustained and even elided through public building. Keynote speakers are Tom Hatchett, staff historian at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, N.C., and Christopher Mead, dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico and teacher in the departments of art history and architecture.
