I and 3 other people started Lightbox Studios in May 2007 and we are starting to get some interesting work done. It's funny to be on the other side of the production world, where I have to search for work, sell what we have best, deal with clients and take care of the company. Whitney Alcott (M.Arch., 2003) wrote, I married Alexander Okon (B.F.A., computer art, 2001) in Charleston, SC on June 30, 2007. We had three fellow alumni, Danielle Paulus (B.F.A., fashion, 2003), Stewart Mills (B.F.A., illustration, 2003) and Kirk Gillard (B.F.A., computer art, 2005) participate in our wedding party and the event was shot by fellow SCAD alumnus and current SCAD-Atlanta photographer, Benjamin Dashwood (B.F.A., photography, 2002). On a career note I was named to AIA's national board for the Center of Building Science and Performance (CBSP). The Center for Building Science and Performance Knowledge Community (CBSP) promotes architects as leader in the application of building science and in the use of high-performance design criteria, codes and standards, and in programming, designing and managing building performance. CBSP aims to educate the profession on these principles and how they influence architectural expression, and investigates and disseminates knowledge regarding building performance, building enclosure and building technology. Kristian Donaldson (B.F.A, sequential art, 2003) began work on a string of original comic book mini series and freelance sequential artwork projects after graduation.  Publishers worked for include: Image Comics, IDW Publishing, Marvel Comics, and DC/Vertigo Comics.  Kristian has been nominated for a 2006 "Eisner Award", for his coloring series "Supermarket" written by Brian Wood.

Belinda Hodler (B.F.A., media and preforming arts, 2003) resides in New York City, more specifically on the beautiful outskirts in Queens. Having studied theater and costume design at SCAD, she surprisingly fell into the advertising industry, where she works for  a successful branding, marketing, and PR company, called TRUST, that represents post production and VFX clients in the commercial and broadcast industry. As all New Yorkers do, Belinda had her hand in all sorts of jobs and projects; she recently came in second place in America's Next Top Glamazon, a competition to find a  new member for the singing, dancing, and comedy group. The Glamazons were featured in NBC's America's Got Talent and reached the Top Ten, Belinda is now exploring the Vaudeville/Burlesque scene in New York and is currently putting together her own cabaret show, hopefully showcasing the SCAD talent that exists here in this unique city. While I was at first amazed by the beauty of the Monaco lifestyle, the IUM’s first term curriculum brought me back to reality, one in which I must balance play with work. The M.B.A. group quickly became close friends and strong bonds were developed. Like SCAD, the school is quite diverse internationally. This diversity produced amazing networking opportunities for future development of interests and worldwide friendship. Even though the curriculum was quite different from the art and design field, it was a nice balance to obtain. Balancing business with design has greatly broadened the horizons of my goals.”

Ryan Holmes (B.F.A., computer art, 2003) lives in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, Jocelyn (Powell) Holmes (B.F.A., painting, 2004). He is senior editor/compositor with the Dallas Theological Seminary. He wrote, "We have built an online education program from the ground up which now offers almost 20 classes streamed on-demand in Flash 8. The classes are supplemented by timed PowerPoint graphics and self-scrolling closed captioning. I manage multiple editors as we record and edit these classes. I am also the main animator and compositor for the school, offering support for various video projects."

Maren Krings (B.F.A., photography, 2003) wrote, " WE AR.T art project had its second run this year with the Bauhaus University in Weimar. The project was executed  in Bad Langenslaza. Architectural ideas of new and different usage for old houses, which are under historic preservation, were the prime there of the project. The students develped their architectural ideas into an interactive exhibition, which was shown in an entire street where the absence of buisnesses has created many vacant storefront windows. The culmniation of the project was a street festival at the end of June, with live bands,food and drinks, presentations and entertainment."

Mark Kritz (M.Arch., 2003) recently completed 27 months of service with the Peace Corps where he worked on a number of projects, one of which was chosen to be included in the Peace Corps 45th Anniversary Celebration in Washington, D.C.

I was invited to play this year at the Sonar Advanced Music Festival in Barcelona, Spain. I then toured Europe for two weeks and played solo and collaborative shows. Eduardo Marron (B.F.A., video/film, 2003) lives in Mexico City, Mexico, with his partner, David. Marron wrote, “After being the producer and director for five years at Telehit (the largest music video channel in Latin America, owned by Televisa.), I have joined an interesting new music video channel called EXA-TV, owned by the largest radio network in Mexico and Latin America (EXA0FM/MVS). EXA-TV is an incredible concept, and it will become the best music video channel in the region in less than a year. I’m also the new creative director at the best late night show in Mexico, Channel 5’s Otro Rollo with Adal Ramones. I’m very happy with these two new jobs and I’m very proud of the fact that SCAD was my college.”

Randall "Randy" C. McCauley (B.F.A., graphic design, 2003) wrote, " After graduating from SCAD I began working at a local printshop in Central Texas where I was able to develop experience and advance my knowledge in print production. My talent then took me to Los Angeles where I worked in television production gaining industry knowlege and a greater understanding of the world of advertising. I returned to Killeen to become Art and Creative Director of a new advertising agency.  Now with my own design firm, I am able to effectively create design solutions by working in one-on-one relationships with my clients. Christina wrote, "The first time I met Jason, we were both blindfolded. We were on a leadership retreat with SCAD and had been paired up for a game of trust. Joshua Merck (B.F.A., computer art, 2003) lives in New York, N.Y., with his wife, Liisa Merck (B.F.A., illustration, 2003). Joshua Merck is a CG animator with The mill NY, a postproduction and effects company. He wrote, "I recently got my first therapeutic massage…and highly recommend it…even if you have no ailments. Ryan Merritt (B.F.A., film and television, 2003) lives in Beverly Hills, Mich., and is the manager of Pampas, a new Brazilian restaurant. He wrote, "I have been working on my own art. Large scale caricatures somewhat reminiscent of Picasso. Very surreal. I have sold one and am working on more. You should be able to find one on e-Bay, which is where I plan on selling them for the time being."

Christine “Christy” Mitchell (B.F.A., metals and jewelry, 2003) lives in Burlington, Vermont and is an assistant director for Pine Street Artworks (www.pinestreetartworks.com), a local art gallery, displaying mid-career artists and artifacts from the 20th and 21st centuries.  Christy wrote, “I had the pleasure of doing a shoot for the television show “That’s Clever” on Home and Garden TV.  I had designed a lamp that was built from vintage pre-1960 radios, where the knobs turn on the light.  They sent a crew form L.A. to film me building the lamp from a radio and also making the lampshade.  It took about 7 hours to do something that will air for maybe 20 minutes.  It is sure to be a hoot, and will make national television.”

Darien Montanez (M. Arch, architecture, 2003) will spend the next two years as production assistant for exhibitions at the Museum of Biodiversity in Panama, with Frank Gehry as his architect boss, Bruce Mau as his graphic designer boss, and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Insititute as his curator boss.

Brian Montgomery (B.F.A., media and performing arts, 2003) lives in New York, N.Y., and is an executive office assistant for The Shubert Organization, which owns or operates seventeen Broadway theatres, is involved in the presentation of distinguished theatrical presentations and runs Shubert Ticketing Services and Telecharge.com.

Meredith Moore (B.F.A., photography, 2003) wrote, "I have been working and living in Dallas for four years now. A year ago I left the commercial photography feild to work in the non-profit world in a quest to make a difference in the world. Habitat for Humanity and I made a perfect match. I work with some of the industry’s best in a very ‘agency’ type environment but with a non-profit heart and budget. It is wonderful and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. Justin Kingsley Noyes, (B.F.A. illustration, 2003) and Rachel (Vanatta) Noyes (B.F.A., metals and jewelry, 2003) wrote, "After both my wife and I graduated we moved to Anna Maria Island, Fla. Rachel started her jewelry company, Nectar Jewelry two years ago and was mostly featured in local galleries and online stores. I began TheIllustrationNation.com around the same time, an online store with my custom silkscreened clothing and wood cut wall art. This past November our dreams came true (through much hard work) when we opened our storefront together called The Hive Creations. The Nectar Jewelry logo includes a bee so we decided to call our shop The Hive. Our goal is to create most everything in the store ourselves, from soy candles, handbags, wall art, prints, silkcreened clothing, and more.  Photos of our shop can be seen at TheHiveStore.com. Nectar Jewelry will be featured in SRQ Magazine in August of 2008 and also in Southern Living Magazine in February 2009. 


I have had multiple children's book illustration deals and am finishing up my fourth one at the moment.  The most popular is by a local Sarasota author and called "Snuffy the Beautiful Dragon".  It is based on a well known garden called The Sarasota Children's Garden, which is a popular all-natural outdoor place for children to explore and play.  It can be viewed and books purchased at www.sarasotachildrensgarden.com. Rich Ponte (M.F.A., computer art, 2003) wrote, "In September I will be getting married to my fiance, Christy, in Raleigh. Currently I work as a professor for a private college in Raleigh, teaching in every area of the CG field (modeling, animation, portfolio development, group project shorts, storyboarding, character design and maquette sculpting). Before my current job I worked in Atlanta as an animation art director for a local video game company. I was responsible for overseeing the team of ten animators and producing most of the preproduction, storyboards, and concept art for new projects. After that, I worked as a freelancer for a production company that produced commercials for Cartoon Network. I would do the tweening, inking or painting of the 2D animation, also compositing and sequencing of animation in After Effects. In addition, I worked as their lead 3D modeler and animator on a national commercial for Topps and Cartoon Network. I had one of my conceptual designs used on the Cartoon Network Adult Swim show "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", and got credit on two episodes. I started my jewelry company, Nectar Jewelry two years ago and was mostly featured in local galleries and online stores. Justin began TheIllustrationNation.com around the same time, an online store with his custom silkscreened clothing and wood cut wall art. This past November our dreams came true (through much hard work) when we opened our storefront together called The Hive Creations. The Nectar Jewelry logo includes a bee so we decided to call our shop The Hive. Justin has had multiple children's book illustration deals and is finishing up his fourth one at the moment.  The most popular is by a local Sarasota author and called "Snuffy the Beautiful Dragon".  It is based on a well known garden called The Sarasota Children's Garden, which is a popular all-natural outdoor place for children to explore and play.  It can be viewed and books purchased at www.sarasotachildrensgarden.com. Sarah Zaidan (B.F.A., sequential Art, 2003) wrote, "After completing my Master's Degree in Illustration from Kingston University in 2006, I have gone on to undertake a PhD in Illustration, also at Kingston, to be completed in 2011. My thesis is a deconstruction of the superhero genre of comics, using an interactive Flash interface. At the moment, I am beginning the third year of my thesis and am creating animations for the first time, so things are very hectic but exciting!" (updated 03/13/09)

 

Abbi Zeliff (B.F.A., graphic design, 2003) lives in Edmond, Okla. She works in the graphic design department at LifeChurch.tv, where she designs both internal and external marketing.

John Zdaniewski (M.Arch., 2003) lives in Savannah, Ga., and works as an architect for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

James Zdaniewski (B.F.A., computer art, 2003) lives in Savannah, Ga., and is art director for WHACK media design, LLC, a multimedia design studio he started with fellow alumnus, Rodrigo Muller (B.F.A., computer art, 2003).
