I just finished new mock-up room for Four Seasons Singapore and the renovation of their bar/alfresco dining. Another wonderful project is the full renovation and repositioning of the old Cathay Hotel in Shanghai, now known as The Peace Hotel. This is a classic, Art Deco hotel originally conceived by Victor Sassoon and designed by Palmer & Turner architects in 1927. It is located centrally on the Bund and once characterized the Shanghai skyline for decades before Pudong was developed. At it prime in the 1930's, the Cathay Hotel was considered the "Pearl of the Orient" amongst all the hotels, attracting many famous celebrities and heads of state. HBA is the lead consultant in fully renovating the guestroom tower and preserving original deco elements in the public areas. This property was formerly operated by a state-owned operator but will be repositioned as a Fairmont "Gold" Hotel. Because of the inclusion of historic preservation courses in my graduate studies at SCAD, I now have the wonderful opportunity to be a key team player in this truly exciting and complex project.
