"Design Thinking" Exhibition
Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St., Savannah, Ga.
The exhibitions department presents "Design Thinking," a curated design sales exhibition showcasing the outstanding breadth of SCAD's School of Design faculty, students and alumni. "Design Thinking" will represent designers as artists who are receptive to a synthesis of open source practicality, luxury, conceptual thinking and creativity, and who satisfy our complex needs and stimulate our active curiosity. A reception will take place July 10, 6-8 p.m.The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Art Materials Trade Show 2009

The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the third annual Art Materials Trade Show and workshops, coordinated by the SCAD School of Foundation Studies to fund student scholarships. The Art Materials Trade Show features professionals and visiting artists in the art and design materials industries who will showcase and demonstrate the best and most up-to-date products related to art and design, all of which will be for sale to the public at significant discounts. Industry experts will also offer academic, business-oriented, practical and technical seminars. The trade show and seminars are free and open to the public. For a fee, workshops will be held Oct. 2-3 at Alexander Hall, 668 Indian St. SCAD professors will provide instruction. More information is available online.

Paul Tillery's (B.F.A., animation, 2008) project "Window Pains" has been accepted to screen at the Computer Animation Festival at SIGGRAPH 2009. Luke Leising (M.Arch., 2004) was awarded second place from the Graduate Thesis Award Committee for his thesis, “Bridging the Tigris: A Pedestrian Bridge for Baghdad, Iraq.” The committee selects thesis award winners for the most outstanding graduate theses with the academic services cabinet. Jeanette Delane Illidge (B.F.A., media and performing arts, 2006) and Noah Ross Harrell (M.F.A., media and performing arts, 2006) were chosen by the media and performing arts department faculty and chair to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award at Commencement 2006. Each department is asked to submit the name of an undergraduate female, undergraduate male and graduate-level student — all of whom must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher — to receive the award.
