Atlanta Orientation

International

Dear new international student:
We are pleased you have chosen to further your education at the Savannah College of Art and Design's Atlanta location. The new international student orientation schedule will answer many questions and should help make your arrival trouble-free.

A staff member from the international student services office will be on hand during orientation check-in. After you have checked in and completed the orientation process, you may keep in touch with the Atlanta ISSO or visit the international student adviser in the Student Resource Center on the first floor. ISSO staff members will provide you with information about many topics, including U.S. immigration law and health insurance enrollment. The dean of students will be your primary point of contact at SCAD Atlanta. The dean of students' office also is located in the Student Resource Center on the first floor.

Unless the admission department has exempted you from English as a Second Language, you are required to take the ESL placement exam. Read details about the ESL placement exam.

The ESL placement exam consists of three parts:
  1. Writing: You will write a timed essay (30 minutes) on a familiar topic, which will be provided.
  2. Listening/reading/grammar: You will take a standardized, 100-question, multiple-choice test (60 minutes).
A short break is allowed between each section. All materials are provided. No dictionaries or notes are allowed.

If you have any questions or concerns before your arrival or during the course of your studies, contact the ISSO by calling 404.253.3104 or by fax at 404.253.3254.

We look forward to seeing you during international student check-in.

Sincerely,

Peter May
