Scholarships for entering students

Incoming students may be offered a scholarship or other awards from SCAD based on demonstrated academic and/or co-curricular achievement, including leadership, volunteer work, community service or involvement, and artistic accomplishment. Scholarships are available to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. Students who wish to be considered for achievement scholarships may be asked to provide additional materials as part of their application for admission.

Financial need, as indicated by completion of the FAFSA or other documentation, is also taken into consideration for need-based scholarships and awards.

Recipients may accept additional scholarships and awards from other sources, as well as additional forms of financial aid, if qualified.

Quarterly and annual awards

Most undergraduate scholarships are awarded to degree-seeking students, are applied quarterly, and may be renewed annually through completion of a bachelor’s degree (or up to 225 attempted hours) as long as the recipient remains enrolled and maintains a GPA of at least 3.0. Students may qualify for more than one scholarship and may receive a combined total up to the cost of tuition. Students who plan to pursue a double major or multiple minors should meet with a staff adviser to determine if aid is sufficient.

Graduate awards are offered to degree-seeking students, are applied quarterly, and may be renewed annually until completion of a graduate degree at SCAD, as long as the recipient remains enrolled at SCAD and maintains a GPA average of at least 3.25.

Annual awards for undergraduate and graduate students are intended to be disbursed over 45 hours of credit earned in three quarters at SCAD.

How SCAD housing affects your award

SCAD scholarship offers for undergraduates vary according to whether students reside in SCAD housing. A scholarship recipient who accepts an on-campus award as an entering student, but moves out of the SCAD residence hall at any time, is considered to be declining the on-campus award amount and accepting the off-campus award, thus reducing his or her award to 70 percent of the on-campus award amount. Therefore, a balance due may be created. These students must then resolve any resulting charges incurred with the SCAD student accounts office.

Graduate award recipients are not required to reside in SCAD housing.
