Leila Singleton (B.F.A., graphic design, 2003) was selected for The 4th Block's VII International Triennial of Eco-Poster exhibition in Kharkov, Ukraine. Established in 1991 to commemorate the Chernobyl disaster, the Triennial aims to represent "the most significant art achievements of the world design community on ecological subject matter." Singleton's entry was a revamped design she originally created in a class taught by SCAD professor Louis Baker.

Ethan Waterman (B.F.A., graphic design, 2009) was chosen as one of three winning designs by JCPenney, to be used in its latest series of reusable shopping bags arriving in stores April 8. From 58 entries, three winners were selected by a committee of JCPenney judges. Waterman's simple, fashionable design showcases an overlapping green leaf motif. The limited edition bags, featuring the designers' signatures on the bottom, will be displayed and sold in more than 600 JCPenney stores. The winning students also each received a $1,000 JCPenney gift card and a trip to the JCPenney home office in Plano, Texas.

Nick Patronella, an undergraduate sound design student, was awarded Best Original Score for his film "The Death of Isabella Dickson" at the SCADemy Awards May 28. Patronella's film "Mirror" also was nominated in the category, along with "Darker Shade of Gray" by undergraduate sound design student

On April 21, 2009,
District won three awards from the Missouri Student Society of News Design's College News Design Contest.
- District staff won first place for Best Mini-Site/Special Section of Web Site for their Savannah Film Festival 2008 coverage. Content provided by Evan Watkins, Randy Smith, Bryce Phillips, Anne Fuentes, Sumie Garcia, Jon Rushing, Michael Jewell, James Biscardi and Travis Walters.
- Former art directors Gretchen Schwartz (undergraduate graphic design student) and Brad Tober (B.F.A., graphic design, 2008) won second place for Overall Design of a Newspaper.
- Graduate graphic design student and former art director Matthew Cole won honorable mention for Features Page Design.
Sottile and Sottile, the firm of Savannah College of Art and Design architecture and urban design professor and alumnus
Christian Sottile (M.Arch 1997), has been awarded a 2009 Charter Award from the Congress for the New Urbanism for its Civic Master Plan for the East Riverfront of Savannah.
Steve Hammond (M.F.A., animation, 2008) and
Lauren Kaczor (B.F.A., animation and visual effects, 2009) were hired for Fisher-Price's animation apprenticeship program.
Alumnus
Matthew Kiefer (B.F.A., visual effects, 2009) has signed a three-year contract to serve as a digital lighting artist for Dreamworks Animation in Los Angeles. He will begin work on "Kung Fu Panda 2" after Commencement.
