The accessories industry is a major force in fashion. At SCAD, accessory design students develop an awareness of this specialized industry and its various markets. Students learn to think and design in the realms of both 2-D and 3-D, allowing them to direct creativity into functional innovation.
Patternmaking and design skills, as well as mastery of industry-standard equipment, are emphasized throughout the program. Students learn to design and construct marketable 3-D accessory items at a high level of craftsmanship.

A comprehensive studio setting offers full prototype production capabilities with specialized equipment including a selection of women’s and men’s shoe lasts, a shoe finishing machine and cylinder industrial sewing machines. Industry-standard Lectra Romans CAD software is used for designing bags and shoes.
Accessory design students collaborate with students in fashion, fibers, industrial design and other disciplines to conceptualize, design and create fashion accessory products. Students are guided in every step of the design process, from concept to completion. Students develop and construct samples of the shoes, handbags, belts and other accessories they have designed.
In addition to accessory design, the SCAD fashion department offers degree programs in fashion design, fashion marketing and management, and luxury and fashion management.
