Recent alumni

Six fibers students and alumni received awards in the “Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2014” exhibition hosted by the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance at the Lamar Dodd School of Art galleries in Athens, Georgia. SCAD boasted more winners than any other school with entries selected for exhibition.

The exhibition is juried and features creative work in fiber art by students enrolled in fiber and textile programs in the Southeast. The following SCAD fibers students brought home awards:

  • Melissa Paige Sixma (M.F.A. fibers student; B.F.A., fibers, 2012) won first place for her entry, Memebroidery: Sweet Brown.
  • Betsy Bull (B.F.A. fibers student) won second place for her entries, Constricted Shroud and Plie.
  • Ross Satterfield (B.F.A., fibers, 2014) won the Surface Design Association Award of Excellence for his entry, Lindsays.
  • Matt Bobbins (B.F.A., fibers, 2014) won the Complex Weavers Award for his entry, Prayer to a Vortex.
  • Liz Robb (M.F.A., fibers, 2014) won the Handweavers Guild of America award for her entry, Indigo Jacquard Weaving.
  • Daniela Guarin (B.F.A. painting student) won the merit prize sponsored by Halcyon Yarn for her entry, Skewed Reality.

Dana Bailey (B.F.A., fibers, 2014) was also among the students selected to participate in the exhibition.

Three of the award-winning works were completed in fibers professor Deborah First’s FIBR 414 Computer-aided Jacquard Design and FIBR 733 Digital Jacquard Design Studio I courses.
