First year at SCAD:
2002

"After practicing design for a few years I decided to return to school for a master's degree in interior design. I enjoyed practicing design but felt that I might prefer teaching it. With degree complete, I took a two-year appointment as an entry-level instructor at Texas Tech University. Teaching won me over, and I have risen through the faculty ranks at multiple universities to attain multiple tenures and the ultimate rank of full professor. The exposure to learning and learners and the opportunities to engage students in developing their own design skills and talents continues to inspire me. Each term starts anew, each year offers challenges and possibilities. I am most satisfied with teaching graduate classes at SCAD but also enjoy the first undergraduate studio's enthusiasm for everything new in design. I enjoy curriculum development and gaining knowledge about learning and teaching."
