First year at SCAD:
2011

You could say teaching is in my blood. Both my parents, my sister, my aunt, my cousin and my grandparents have all been educators. But, despite all that influence, I wanted to chart my own course. I wanted to design! After years in practice, however, something was missing. I love design, but somehow there was an ingredient that was left out of the mix. A friend invited me to critique his college studio class one day and that missing spark revealed itself. Interacting with the students engaged me in a way nothing else ever had. From then on I took every opportunity to get in a classroom. What I discovered was that I needed both design and teaching to feel complete. I need to be passionate about what I do to teach well. Nothing inspires me like teaching, and nothing engages my passion more than design. Together they form a perfect fit, a blend of passion and inspiration I hope I can pass along to my students.
