Outside of the virtual classroom, eLearning students benefit from a wide array of student services and academic resources that serve as a link between traditional university locations and online students living around the world.
Whether you need help overcoming challenges, addressing technical issues or maximizing your SCAD experience, you can find individual attention for your specific need.
Administrative services and staff are available to help students take advantage of university resources and put themselves in the best position to succeed.
Easily accessible library and textbook resources
SCAD's virtual library offers access to numerous electronic databases and print materials to support the university's curriculum. Jen Library's online services include full-text resources, e-books, queries to the library reference staff and interlibrary loan services. Upon request, Jen Library staff may send materials to students who are not located on a SCAD campus via priority mail at no charge. In addition, the Visual Resources Center, available on the College Resources channel on MySCAD, provides students access to more than 600,000 digital images.
An online bookstore is available for ordering supplies, textbooks and software via MySCAD. eLearning students may also purchase textbooks from Ex Libris, the college bookstore, which allows visitors to search for textbooks by class.
Additional academic resources
The office of student success and advising is committed to undergraduate student development. Success advisers help students develop educational plans and career goals and relate these goals to academic offerings. Professional staff and faculty advisers assist with course selection and professional development on a regular basis and help guide students toward fulfilling the requirements for graduation and creating a successful and enriching educational experience.
Graduate academic advising provides comprehensive guidance and support that aids graduate students as they navigate their academic programs at SCAD. Advisers collaborate with professors and staff to provide each graduate student with the curriculum and resources to fulfill their higher education requirements.
Academic Resource Network
The Academic Resource Network provides academic assistance resources, referrals and services to enrolled SCAD students. Students may access the Academic Resource Network through the MySCAD intranet.
The Writers' Studio
From term papers to thesis papers, the Writers' Studio assists students at any level and at any stage of the writing process. SCAD eLearning students can make priority appointments. Students submit papers in advance with a request for help in a specific area and communicate directly with Writers' Studio staff during their appointment time. Watch for special workshop events that help cultivate superior writing skills.
Peer tutor connection
Peer tutors are available for one–on–one appointments to help eLearning students with specific course assignments, software programs, writing assignments and English language skills. Peer tutors are upper–level, high–achieving students who assist fellow students with courses. Peer tutors do not provide answers or solutions to homework assignments, but instead work with the student in an effort to model problem–solving strategies and explain course–specific concepts.
Virtual Lecture Hall
The Virtual Lecture Hall offers webcasts and recordings of lectures, workshops and other events for students at all SCAD locations. Students and faculty may access the Virtual Lecture Hall through the MySCAD intranet.
Through MySCAD, students have access to the latest tools, techniques and tutorials available on Lynda.com. Get clear and comprehensive instruction on 3–D, audio, video, photography, graphic design, Web and interactive design, and business from one of the leading software training tools.
