Vanity Fair said of the book, "Inspired by the [real-world] looting of artifacts from museums in the war-torn Middle-East, Davies addresses the politics of art and ownership while hanging on to his trademark eccentricity and sharp-edged comedy." Other reviewers call the novel "a rollicking, rocking good read" (David Benioff), "laugh-out-loud funny" (People), "unabashedly fun" (Entertainment Weekly), "raving mad…manic, frantic, deranged and insane" (USA Today) and "a comic thriller composed with literary refinement" (Troy Patterson, National Public Radio).

Professional Writing Overview

Professional Writing (hand writing) The Savannah College of Art and Design offers B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in professional writing at the SCAD-Savannah and SCAD-Atlanta locations through the School of Liberal Arts.

The professional writing program prepares students for careers in a global society that demands communication through the written word. The program provides a comprehensive approach to writing, with particular attention to professional practices and the commercial applicability of students' work.

Small class size promotes critiques, careful reading and consideration of what makes good writing: observation and analytical skills, fine discriminations, linguistic originality, commercial and marketplace considerations, and a compassion for the human condition. These can be achieved through a disciplined sense of voice, context, audience and integrity of intention. Comprehensive knowledge of form, content and technique is emphasized.

Visiting authors explain the practical aspects of professional writing, share their work and offer feedback to student writers. Tom Wolfe, Amy Tan, Edward Albee, Tama Janowitz, Augusten Burroughs and others have visited the university to share their work and the concerns that inform their writing processes. Practical experience is available through internships, the SCAD Student Media Center and the university's literary journals.
