Historic Preservation program

Historic Preservation

As our cities and towns realize the cultural and financial value of restoring and/or converting older buildings, the demand for historic preservationists grows. Preservationists are responsible for researching, documenting and preserving the heritage found in our structural and architectural environment. They are versed in the social and economic issues affecting structures, as well as the laboratory and rehabilitation techniques to save them.

Pursue your Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts, or Master of Fine Arts degree in historic preservation at a college that is internationally recognized as a leader in the field — Savannah College of Art and Design. A historic preservation minor and graduate certificate also are available.

Broaden your knowledge in the living lab that is Savannah, and in locations throughout this history-rich region. The department’s conservation laboratory is one of only a few in the U.S., specially equipped for materials testing, restoration treatment analysis, and conservation experimentation.
