Black Bottom Parade game in Hong Kong lobby
Black Bottom Parade, a custom-built interactive table game designed and developed by a team of six SCAD students, was a finalist for juried categories and an audience choice award at Indiecade, an international festival of independent games. Black Bottom Parade was built for the lobby of the SCAD Hong Kong location by an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students who were guided in their research by SCAD professors John Sharp, Matthew Maloney and David Spencer.

Erin McMahon completes gardening internship
B.F.A. architectural history student Erin McMahon completed a month-long gardening internship in England in August 2011, spending three weeks at a private garden near Stratford and one week at the garden of Hampton Court. McMahon wishes to study landscape garden history following the completion of her degree at SCAD.

Novack Sun Conference Runner of the Week
B.F.A fashion student Melanie Novack, a sophomore from St. Augustine, Florida, was named the Sun Conference Runner of the Week for the third time this season after her performance at the Southeast Cross Country Classic hosted by Berry College in Rome, Georgia, on Oct. 22. Novack finished in seventh place out of 309 other runners with a time of 18:46 (fastest among Sun Conference runners). The SCAD Savannah women's cross country team, led by Novack, finished in sixth place out of 35 teams.

SocialAttire.com sells Stephanie Fratus dress
As part of an assignment for her Color: Theory and Applications foundation studies class, B.F.A. fashion student Stephanie Fratus created a dress inspired by the sunset and its red and orange hues. She decided to post the dress on SocialAttire.com, a fashion website where designers can submit their designs, which are then voted on by consumers. Her dress was chosen and is now on sale on socialattire.com. It will be mass produced. She will keep all credit for the design and receive 10 percent of the profits.

SCAD and world-renowned luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet have organized a photography competition and exhibition, "The Art of Timeless Precision," which was on display to the public from Oct. 5-9, 2011, at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui. Audemars Piguet invited SCAD Hong Kong students to capture their best image representing the theme of "The Art of Timeless Precision" to celebrate the company's launch of the new Jules Audemars 2011 collection. Ten photographs from SCAD students were selected as finalists, with an image by B.F.A. film and television student student Skene Milne chosen as the top image. Read the press release.

Moeller collaborates on instructional videos
Terry Moeller, professor of foundation studies, collaborated with Royal Talens in the filming of two instructional art videos. Royal Talens, a Dutch company, is a manufacturer of artist grade colors including Rembrandt oils paints and pastels, Van Gogh oils, and Amsterdam acrylics. The videos cover alla prima or "wet into wet" painting and traditional layered painting techniques. The videos will be dubbed into eight different languages and are currently shown on their dealer websites and distributed through artist magazines online including American Artist and Professional Artist. B.F.A. film and television student Eric Dickinson also worked on the two videos. Watch the videos.

Eight SCAD students were selected as finalists for the inaugural Nurture Collegiate Healthcare Design Competition. B.F.A. motion media design student Dillan Brinlee, who competes on the Bees' cross country team, won the 5K race at the 2011 Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run with a time of 17:07, and M.F.A. graphic design student Ben Brown finished first in the 10K race with a time of 33:16. SCAD and world-renowned luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet have organized a photography competition and exhibition, "The Art of Timeless Precision," which was on display to the public from Oct. 5-9, 2011, at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui. Audemars Piguet invited SCAD Hong Kong students to capture their best image representing the theme of "The Art of Timeless Precision" to celebrate the company's launch of the new Jules Audemars 2011 collection. B.F.A. production design student Jenny Nicholas and Evelyn Szeinbaum (B.F.A., production design, 2011) received the USITT Theatrical Lighting Design Stipend to the International Association of Lighting Designers Enlighten Americas 2011 conference held during September in New Orleans. The stipends covered their conference expenses, and Szeinbaum is now interviewing for internship positions with several of the companies she met while at the event.
