SCAD receives grant from Target

Nov 2, 2009 SCAD received a $5,000 grant from Target to provide professional development opportunities for students, such as entry fees, conference registration and residency costs. Allicia Pickett, assistant director of career services, wrote the grant and administers the program.

Anderson chairs multiple conference sessions

Oct 6, 2009 Judi Anderson, director of technology operation for information management and technology, served as chair for multiple sessions at the Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Groups on University and College Computer Services annual conference, held in St. Louis, Missouri, in October.

Michael Clark receives technology award

Oct 6, 2009 Michael Clark, SCAD technology support center manager, received a Communication Award of Excellence given by the Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Groups on University and College Computer Services for his submission of electronic instructional material related to training on the new Web help desk system. The award was presented in the Electronic How-to-guide category at the SIGUCCS annual conference in St. Louis, Mo., in October.

Chaney, Jarrett featured on MTV show

Sep 4, 2009 SCAD is featured on the Sept. 6 episode of MTV's show "Made," a reality series following high school students who want to be "made" into singers, athletes, dancers and more. The show includes a segment featuring Michael Chaney, SCAD film and television professor, and Andrea Jarrett, senior admission representative, giving a tour to a high school senior interested in pursing a sound design career.

Kristine Stevens publishes health article

Jul 10, 2009 Contemporary writing graduate student Kristine K. Stevens, SCAD's Web content producer, wrote the article "On the Fluoride Cycle: A healthy smile for life" for Shaping Savannah, the health insert published by Savannah Morning News.

Staff receive national gold ADDY award

Jun 18, 2009 SCAD Web developer Harold Jones (B.F.A., graphic design, 2004) and creative director Randy Rodriguez (B.F.A., graphic design, 2002) accepted a national Gold ADDY Award June 6 for their work on the university's 30th anniversary Web site.

Aaron Pompei article published by Adobe

Jun 11, 2009 The Adobe Design and Film School Connection site recently featured an article written by Aaron Pompei, senior media designer for SCAD eLearning.The article, titled "Savannah College of Art and Design Produces the 'Virtual Lecture Hall," expounds on the benefit and purpose of the Virtual Lecture Hall to provide all SCAD students with a way to view lectures, regardless of their location, and explains the production process used by the SCAD eLearning media design team, including software details.

Charla Pettingill (M.A., illustration, 2009) was hired as a full-time illustrator/creative designer at Just 4 Fun Corporation in Atlanta.
Tamara Garvey earns Telfair Art Fair honor
Tamara Garvey (B.F.A., illustration, 2008) was awarded honorable mention at the annual Telfair Art Fair in Savannah in November.

Matthew Martino (B.F.A., graphic design, 2009) accepted a position with Cynergy Systems, Washington, D.C., as a user experience lead.
Professor James Lough publishes book
Writing chair James Lough's book "Spheres of Awareness: A Wilberian Integral Approach to Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, and Art" has been published by University Press of America.
