B.F.A. production design student Jenny Nicholas and Evelyn Szeinbaum (B.F.A., production design, 2011) received the USITT Theatrical Lighting Design Stipend to the International Association of Lighting Designers Enlighten Americas 2011 conference held during September in New Orleans. The stipends covered their conference expenses, and Szeinbaum is now interviewing for internship positions with several of the companies she met while at the event.

SCAD production design professor Michael Devine has been awarded the 2012 Distinguished Achievement Award in Design by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology Scene Design Commission. The commission has dedicated a session at the USITT National Convention on March 30, 2012, from 2:45-4 p.m. to celebrate the award.

Hal Tiné, a SCAD production design professor, has been nominated for a 2011 New York Innovative Theatre Foundation IT Award. The awards honor excellence in off-off-Broadway theater, and Tiné was nominated in the Outstanding Set Design category for his work on "The Changing Room" at T. Schreiber Studio. The awards will be presented in a ceremony held Sept. 19. Learn more.

Tine production designed "The Changing Room"

SCAD Professor Hal Tiné production designed "The Changing Room," an Off Off Broadway show. Critics heralded Tiné's work. Martin Denton of NYtheatre.com described the production as "featuring a stunningly naturalistic set." Zak Risinger of TheEasy.com said, "While the theatre is extremely intimate, the set design by Hal Tiné is quite possibly one of the best sets that I have seen Off Off Broadway."
Guichard wins conference costume design award

M.F.A. production design student Magda Guichard won the first place Graduate Costume Design Award from the Southeastern Theatre Conference. She won the award for her designs of the opera "Un Ballo in Maschera." Guichard was also one of five finalists chosen for the Ready to Work Award, which allows a student to design a show for the upcoming season for the Children's Theatre of Charlotte.
