Architecture professor Ryan Bacha has been awarded the Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award. This annual award recognizes an outstanding faculty member at a Georgia Independent College Association member institution who has made outstanding contributions to undergraduate education, student learning and campus life.

Payne on Design Research Society council

Architecture professor Andrew Phillip Payne has been elected to serve a two-year term on the council of the Design Research Society. Payne will develop new projects and serve as an expert in his area of research for DRS.

Kuester wins Benjamin Moore grand prize

B.F.A. architecture student Evan Kuester won grand prize in the Benjamin Moore Student Design Challenge, where students were asked to design two or three rooms that evoked an emotional, physical or spiritual connection to the environment.

Architecture department earns NCARB award

Congratulations to SCAD's architecture department on the 2012 National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) award for a proposal - "Disentanglement and Gates: An Interactive Game of Architecture Practice" - submitted by professors Carole Pacheco, Matthew Dudzik and Greg Hall. SCAD was one of only three universities to receive the award.

Charles Mashburn, Jr. (B.F.A., architecture, 2009; M.Arch, 2010, Savannah) was responsible for the conceptual design of the North Texas Masonic Historical Museum and Library in Plano, Texas, in 2011. His thesis article was published in the Dec. 2010 issue of London, England's 'The Square' magazine. Mashburn is in the process of taking the Architectural Review Exam to earn his architectural license.

John Stennis (B.F.A, architecture, 2005; M.Arch, 2006, Savannah) is a project manager at Gilday Architects in Jackson, Wyoming, where he has worked for the past six years on both residential and commercial projects. Currently he is working on the renovation and addition to the Teton County Library. In 2010 Stennis was appointed to a three-year term as a Town of Jackson Planning and Zoning/Board of Adjustment commissioner.
