Rossell helps neighborhood get designation

Architectural history professor E.G. Daves Rossell has been helping members of the Pine Gardens Neighborhood Association get their Savannah, Georgia, neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The effort, which has spanned more than a decade, will culminate with a review of their application by the national register at the state and national levels, with the goal of permanently adding the World War II-era neighborhood to the register. Mark Davison (B.F.A., architectural history, 2005) recently moved to Tetouan, Morocco, and will be working with the regional tourism ministry to create English language promotional materials. His long-term goal is to open a heritage tourism/urban marketing firm.
Allen documents history of WPA-era projects

Bradley Allen (B.F.A., architectural history, 2011) completed an internship with the Historic American Building Survey in Washington, D.C., where he documented the history of WPA-era projects. Allen is seeking a Master's of Architectural History degree at the University of Virginia.

McWilliams begins Ph.D. at University of York

In fall 2010 Evan McWilliams (B.F.A., architectural history, 2008; M.A., architectural history, 2010) began his Ph.D. in art and architectural history at the University of York, where his research focuses on the study of churches of the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose designs were influenced by what are commonly known as the English Use liturgies.
Walker pursues Ph.D. in architectural history

Nathaniel Walker (M.A., architectural history, 2006) is pursuing his Ph.D. in architectural history at Brown University, and delivered a paper titled "A Slave in His Place: Racial Regulation and Segregation in the Savannah Squares" at the annual meeting of the Society of Architectural Historians in New Orleans on April 15, 2011. He is the first SCAD architectural history alumnus to present at this national conference.
Frazier earns Ph.D. at University of Bonn

Tyler Frazier (B.F.A., architectural history, 1998) earned his Ph.D. in geographical sciences and urban planning from the Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung (Centre for Development Research) at the University of Bonn. He also published an essay, "Transforming Accra towards a Sustainable Future: Comprehensive Land Use Planning and the Greater Accra Urban Simulation System (GAUSS)," in UGEC Viewpoints No. 5 (April 2011). He is the first alumnus of the SCAD architectural history program to earn a Ph.D.

B.F.A. architectural history student Erin McMahon completed a month-long gardening internship in England in August 2011, spending three weeks at a private garden near Stratford and one week at the garden of Hampton Court. McMahon wishes to study landscape garden history following the completion of her degree at SCAD.

Architectural history professor Thomas Gensheimer delivered a paper, "Memory and Eternity: Tomb Architecture and the Medieval Swahili City" at the 2010 Annual Conference of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (SESAH) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in October 2010. In light of the positive feedback he received at that presentation, he submitted an article on Swahili monumental tomb architecture for publication by Building and Landscapes: the Journal of the Vernacular Architecture Forum.

Architectural history professor Celeste Guichard was part of a symposium panel for the Pioneer Valley Romanists Forum in August 2010, held at the Joukowsky Institute of Archaeology at Brown University. The purpose of the symposium was to share and critique new research among a group of 15 Romanists.
