SCAD-Atlanta student designs winning poster for THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola

Kristina Bowers, graphic design, THE TOUR Championship posterATLANTA - The Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta and THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola have named SCAD-Atlanta graphic design graduate student Kristina Bowers the winner of their second annual poster design contest. Beginning July 24, the winning poster will be used to promote the Sept. 24-28 PGA TOUR finals at East Lake Golf Club.

Students from both the graphic design and illustration departments participated in the competition, and a panel of judges selected Bowers' design from 10 finalists. $1,000 will be awarded to the graphic design and illustration departments, and Bowers will receive a $1,500 scholarship from THE TOUR Championship.

Bowers' design is a photograph featuring a gloved hand placing a golf ball on a tee, but she said that wasn't her original plan.

"I originally had the idea to have a ball by itself but that looked strange, like a floating ball, so I added a tee to ground it," she said. When the ball kept falling off the tee, Bowers' dad stepped in to steady the ball with his hand.

She said, "I took about 200 pictures and that night when I was looking at them, the one with the hand kept standing out to me. Now I tease my dad about being a hand model."

About THE TOUR Championship

THE TOUR Championship was created as a finale to the PGA TOUR season by limiting the elite field to THE TOUR's 30 leading points winners. East Lake Golf Club is the home course of legendary amateur golfer Bobby Jones and now permanent home to THE TOUR Championship.
