SCAD student Damon Carlson wins two national ADDY awards

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah College of Art and Design senior illustration student Damon Carlson, of Great Barrington, Mass.,  is the recipient of two national ADDY awards in the 2008 student competition. Carlson won a Gold ADDY award for his advertising illustration “Circus,” and a Silver ADDY award for his advertising illustration “Ocean Awareness.”

The ADDY awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing and rewarding creative excellence in the art of advertising. Carlson first competed in the SCADDY awards, held Jan. 26 at the Lucas Theatre in Savannah, Ga., in which 1600 entries by SCAD students were received and judged by select faculty and industry professionals, including best-selling author Luke Sullivan. Entries were then submitted to the local ADDY awards, held Feb. 15, and local Gold and Silver ADDY winners went on to compete in the regional competition in Chattanooga, Tenn., before being entered into the national competition.

“The advertising design department at SCAD is devoted to preparing students for careers in the advertising field,” said David Foote, SCAD-Atlanta advertising design professor. “That means encouraging collaboration and rewarding creative excellence.”

Carlson will receive his awards at the 2008 National ADDY Awards Gala in Atlanta June 10.
