SCAD-Atlanta fashion students team up with Modern Atlanta for fashion show benefiting Darfur

ATLANTA — Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta student designers will participate in the Modern Atlanta Belgium Design and Fashion Show benefiting Darfur on Saturday, May 10. The fashion show is one of the spotlight events taking place May 6-11 for Modern Atlanta, a new design initiative.

SCAD-Atlanta, along with Domus and Jeffrey, teamed up with top Belgian designer brands Extremis, Ann Demeulemeester and Dries Van Noten for the fashion show. The designers have partnered with international relief agency CARE to increase awareness and raise funds for humanitarian aid in Darfur through the event, scheduled at 8:30 p.m. at 214 Permalume Place in Midtown West.

SCAD-Atlanta students created nature-inspired dresses with amity peace silk, hemp linen and organic cotton. Fashion professor Sarah Collins said, “With this project, I believe that the students were able to achieve fashion-forward looks without sacrificing their environmental and social responsibilities as designers.”

General admission tickets are $60 in advance and $75 at the door. SCAD students can buy tickets at a discounted rate of $25 each. To purchase tickets, e-mail Tenley Gilstrap.
