03/20/2008 SCAD-Atlanta Writer Series presents a lecture by Chip Kidd ATLANTA — The SCAD-Atlanta Writer Series presents a lecture by Chip Kidd Thursday, April 17, 7:30 p.m., at 1600 Peachtree St., Atlanta. This event is free and open to the public, and free on-site parking is available.
USA Today has called Kidd “the closest thing to rock star” in graphic design, and his work in both the design and literary worlds is iconic. His book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf (where he has worked since 1986) have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. His work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Eye, Print, Entertainment Weekly, The New Republic, Time, Graphis, New York and ID magazines, and he regularly contributes visual commentary to the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. In 1998 he was made a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, and in Fall 2003 Newsweek included him in its first issue devoted to design. “The Cheese Monkeys” (Scribner, 2001), Kidd’s debut novel, was a national bestseller as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His second novel, “The Learners,” was published in February 2008. A book signing will follow the lecture.
