SCAD Radio presents free screening of documentary film “Heima”

SAVANNAH, Ga. — SCAD Radio, the Savannah College of Art and Design’s student-run radio station, presents a screening of the Sigur Rós documentary film “Heima” April 7, 8 p.m., at the Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St. The event is free and open to the public.

Sigur Rós, a quartet from Iceland, is known for its hauntingly beautiful melodies and lyrics. In 2006, Sigur Rós returned home after a world tour to play a series of free, unannounced concerts all over Iceland. “Heima” (2007) is a record of that tour filmed in 16 locations across the island, providing footage of the biggest and smallest shows of the band’s career. The 97-minute documentary includes songs from all four of the band’s albums alongside previously unreleased material.

“‘Heima’ is a film that must be seen in a theater setting,” said SCAD Radio general manager Rhys Finch. “There’s something about seeing musical performances on the big screen in surround sound that makes the experience larger than life, and Sigur Rós demands to be shown in this fashion. Their music is, for lack of a better term, huge, and the range of performances and landscapes that are showcased in the film are each amazing in their own way.”

Directed by Dean DeBlois, the film has received positive reviews from the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Variety, which reported, “The unique sounds and images should beguile the uninitiated as well as fans.” Pitchfork called the movie a “stunning record of an extraordinary endeavor.”
