02/27/2008 March 7 gallery hop features metals and jewelry exhibitions among others SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design will host a gallery hop Friday, March 7, 5–7 p.m. Refreshments are provided, and shuttles run between all stops. Exhibitions featured on the hop include:
“Alexander Ink” a juried printmaking exhibition by Savannah College of Art and Design printmaking students.

This exhibition, featuring work by Savannah College of Art and Design printmaking students, will be judged by Holly McCullough, curator of fine arts and exhibitions at the Telfair Museum of Art. The exhibition will draw from such varied techniques as woodcut, monoprint, intaglio and lithography.

The Savannah College of Art and Design and Society of North American Goldsmiths present “Of Lineage and Legacy,” an exhibition guest curated by Gail M. Brown. This exhibition addresses the generational continuum of jewelry and metals within the larger craft community. Mid-career faculty artists have selected a living mentor and an emerging artist to show with, broadening the scope of concepts, dialogue and materials in metals and jewelry exhibition.
This exhibition is held in conjunction with “Crosscurrents: Diverse Solutions in a Global Environment,” the 2008 Society of North American Goldsmiths Conference, March 5–8, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Ga.
“Teatrio: Beyond the Mirror”

The Savannah College of Art and Design welcomes “Teatrio: Beyond the Mirror,” an international traveling exhibition showcasing children’s book illustrations from around the world. The annual Teatrio International Competition of Illustration from Venice, Italy, invites illustrators to submit art for children’s books based on an invented theme. In 2007, SCAD-Atlanta M.F.A. student in illustration Susan Maier was the overall winner, with 11 other SCAD students included.

Korean multimedia artist Shin il Kim’s pressed line drawing videos focus on the emergence and disappearance of the idea of the cult masterpiece.
The Savannah College of Art and Design and the Society of North American Goldsmiths present “Art/Industry,” an exhibition focusing on American studio multiples by jewelers and metalsmiths. This selection of work makes creative use of industrial processes in combination with studio work, in which advanced uses of laser cutting, photochemical machining, electroforming and spinning practices are showcased.
This exhibition is held in conjunction with “Crosscurrents: Diverse Solutions in a Global Environment,” the 2008 Society of North American Goldsmiths Conference, March 5–8, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
“Painting Undone” by Titus Kaphar

Artist in residence in 2007 at the Studio Museum Harlem, in Harlem, N.Y, Titus Kaphar reconfigures quotations of canonical 18th- and 19th-century European and American portraits by cutting into and reshaping the canvas, urging continuous visual and narrative reconsideration on the part of the viewers. This exhibition is Kaphar’s first solo exhibition following graduate school.
Work by Ally Hughes
ShopSCAD, 340 Bull St.
Ally Hughes (B.F.A. furniture design 1999; M.F.A. painting, 2000) worked on DVD special features and advertising for such titles as “The Prestige,” “The Good Shepherd” and “Miami Vice” for major industry studios. It was this technical and fast paced creativedirection that later proved to be the impetus for her current large and small-scale work. Hughes works in the communications department at SCAD, and has exhibited work in Georgia, California and Florida galleries, and her work is displayed in private collections nationwide.
Working Class Studio Open Studio and Trunk Show

Meet the artists and designers of Working Class Studio, a product development venture of the Savannah College of Art and Design. This special open studio event and trunk show will feature student demonstrations and Working Class Studio products for sale, including items from the studio’s popular stationery, home décor and dinnerware collections.
Named one of Kaplan’s “25 cutting-edge schools with an eye toward the future,” the Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution with locations in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga., and in Lacoste, France. Undergraduate and graduate degree programs also are offered online through SCAD-eLearning. The college offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Architecture, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Urban Design degrees.
