SCAD hosts Fibers Open Studio 2008

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design presents Fibers Open Studio 2008, a one-night exhibition of graduate and undergraduate fibers student work, Feb. 22, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Gordon Hall, 439 E. Broad St. The event is free and open to the public.

Samples of fine art, studio production, design for industry, and material exploration will be featured. A drawing will be held for a collaborative quilt made by students in the fibers department, which is currently on display at shopSCAD, 342 Bull St. Tickets can be purchased for $1 or donated art supplies, which will be given to Union Mission’s Growing Hope Artisan’s Cooperative.

The goal of the Growing Hope initiative is to support and enhance the transition from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. Participants express themselves through arts and crafts with the potential to supplement their income.

SCAD offers Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in fibers. Fibers professionals combine historic textile processes and traditions with the newest concepts and technologies in art and design to create everything from carpet and wallpaper to apparel and home furnishings.
