Artists David Adjaye, Yinka Shonibare headline the SCAD winter exhibitions lineup

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design presents its winter exhibitions schedule, featuring architect David Adjaye at SCAD-Savannah, multimedia artist Yinka Shonibare at SCAD-Atlanta, and other renowned and emerging artists.

Adjaye, who designed the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Colo., is known for his ingenious use of materials and ability to sculpt and showcase light in public buildings. His projects include the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway; two Idea Stores in London; and the Berni Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham, United Kingdom. SCAD will feature “Making Public Buildings,” a traveling exhibition celebrating the contemporary British architect, at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St., Savannah, Ga., Jan. 11-Feb. 24, 2008.

“Odile and Odette,” by London-based artist Yinka Shonibare, member of the Order of the British Empire, will be on display at the ACA Gallery of SCAD in Atlanta, Jan. 10-March 2, 2008. Born in London, raised by his Nigerian parents in Lagos and educated in England, Shonibare considers himself “truly bicultural.” This upbringing led Shonibare to frequently explore themes of race, ethnicity and cultural stereotypes in his art.

Other artists featured include Hung Liu, Titus Kaphar, Kym Hepworth, Craig Stevens, and work from the Teatrio International Competition of Illustration from Venice, Italy. Complete exhibition details for Savannah and Atlanta are listed below.

All exhibitions are free and open to the public. For more information, visit SCAD Exhibitions. Media inquiries may be directed to 912.525.5158 in Savannah or 404.253.2759 in Atlanta.
