SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah College of Art and Design presents “I’ll Remember You,” an exhibition by Korean photographer Yeondoo Jung, Oct. 26–Nov. 18, at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. A reception will be held Oct. 26, 7-9 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
Jung was named Artist of the Year for 2007 by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Korea. His photographic work reflects his fascination with old Hollywood movies and TV shows, and he is especially influenced by the sets and artificial scenery used in movies before the dawn of the computer age.
“Set-makers had to find other ways to manufacture a reality within the artificial construct of the soundstage,” Jung said. “I approach my new photographic series from the opposite direction. I am trying to show how fake the real landscape can be.
Nothing in “I’ll Remember You” has been digitally manipulated; all of the celluloid images have been achieved by juxtaposing natural elements with old-fashioned prop-making techniques.
