ATLANTA — World-renowned artists, designers and industry professionals will descend upon the Savannah College of Art and Design this spring as part of SCAD Style, the college’s second annual style and design week, May 10–19. The weeklong series of events will highlight several of the college’s style- and design-oriented programs of study, including fashion, interior design and architecture.

SCAD Style begins on Thursday, May 10 with a cocktail party and reception at SCAD-Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St. The SCAD Style Étoile Gala will honor innovative, trend-setting visionaries in the fields of fashion retail, accessory and jewelry design, home décor and lifestyle journalism and will feature entertainment by legendary New York DJ Lady Bunny.

In recognition of their monumental contributions to the fields of style and design, honorees will be presented with a SCAD Style Étoile Award. Étoile, which means “a star in the sky” in French, connotes brilliance, glamour, iconic style and ideation. This year, SCAD will honor Bergdorf Goodman senior vice president of fashion office and store presentation Linda Fargo, Town & Country editor-in-chief Pamela Fiori, jewelry designer and entrepreneur David Yurman and west elm, Williams-Sonoma Inc.'s distinctly modern, design-driven home furnishings brand all of whom will all be present at the gala.

SCAD Style Étoile Gala honorary chairs are furniture designer Dakota Jackson, retailer Jeffrey Kalinsky, entertainment moguls and philanthropists Judy and Michael Mauldin, Veranda magazine founding editor and style journalist Lisa Newsom, and SCAD alumnus Santiago Barberi Gonzalez, president of Nancy Gonzalez. Host committee co-chairs are Atlanta interior designer Dan Carithers and author Frances Schultz.

Proceeds from the gala will benefit the SCAD Style Scholarship, which allows one undergraduate or graduate student from both SCAD-Atlanta and the college’s Savannah location to study one quarter at SCAD-Lacoste in Provence, France.

Numerous special events will take place in Atlanta and Savannah during SCAD Style, including lectures by guest artists, trunk shows, book signings and special film screenings. Experts will share their knowledge of the design industries and emerging market trends through workshops and lectures that will be free and open to the public. Guest designers and artists scheduled to participate in SCAD Style include Andy Spade, co-founder of Kate Spade Handbags; historian and scholar Caroline Weber; figurative artist Wangechi Mutu, interior designer and photographer Vicente Wolf; fashion photographer Gray Scott and fashion designers Cynthia Rowley, Bethann Hardison and Brian Wolk and Claude Morais of Ruffian.
