04/09/2007 SCAD brings international gaming conference to Savannah SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design is collaborating with Women in Games International to present “Advancing Your Career in Game Development.” The conference is Thursday, April 26, 1–7:30 p.m., River Club, 3 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and will coincide with the college’s annual Game Developers eXchange conference.
"Part of the Women in Games International mandate is to educate, inform and welcome newcomers to the games industry,” said Fiona Cherbak, development chair for Women in Games International. “We have partnered with SCAD because of their superior interactive design and game development program and excellent reputation for matriculating highly skilled concept artists, 3-D modelers and game designers. SCAD is developing the game industry talent of today and tomorrow, and WIGI endeavors to support this effort on behalf of the game industry at large."
The half-day conference kicks off with keynote speaker Jennifer MacLean, general manager of games at Comcast Interactive. In her keynote address titled “Everything I Need to Know, I Learned By Playing Games,” MacLean will discuss everything from the importance of communication to the value of diversity and the need to understand priorities. MacLean will explain how games like Halo, Everquest and Civilization teach consumers everything they need to know for personal and professional success.
Other panels include “Breaking In: How to Acquire the Skills and Get That First Job,” and “The Ultimate Challenge: Balancing Work and Personal Life.” Topics for roundtable discussions include “meet the producers,” “attracting women into games,” “planning for the long-term career,” “résumé construction and networking strategies,” and “quality of life and an array of career options.”
