01/24/2007 Savannah College of Art and Design to host Inspire 07 symposium: Event to feature lectures, panels and screenings from industry leaders SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design broadcast design and motion graphics department will host the inaugural Feb. 16 at the Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St. Intended for students, professionals and anyone with an interest in the arts, the event's lineup will boast a veritable "who's who" from the broadcast design and motion graphics industry.
Presentations will be conducted by award-winning professionals including Marco Spier and Marie Hyon from Psyop, Brien Holman and Jayson Whitmore from Exopolis, Jakob Trollbäck from Trollbäck + Company, Dale Herigstad from Schematic and Jose Gomez and Andre Stringer from Shilo. Collectively, the group has generated some of the most talked-about work in 2006 for companies such as Gap Inc., Apple Computer and MTV. Panelists include Patrick McDonough from PMcD Design, Vasil Hnatiuk from Roger, Limore Shur from EyeballNYC and Ellerey Gave from Capacity.
The symposium added a screening of Alison Chernick's new film, "Matthew Barney No Restraint," which offers insight into the working process of one world’s most well-known media artists. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2006, and Inspire 2007 is currently the film’s only scheduled screening in Georgia.
Inspire 07 attempts to encourage discussion and facilitate the exchange of creative ideas in broadcast design, motion graphics and media art. The end goal is for guests to be motivated toward greater enthusiasm and creativity in their own work, through exposure to the influential work of presenters.
A reception for speakers, sponsors and award nominees will follow the symposium at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. Following the reception, participants will head to the Lucas Theatre for the Cream O’ the Crop award show, a dazzling display of eye candy featuring the best and most innovative motion graphics and media art of the year. Justin Cone, creator and editor of motionographer.com, and Jill Taffet, chair of the SCAD broadcast design and motion graphics department, will curate and moderate the award show. An after party, sponsored by Media Temple, will be open to all attendees at the Lucas Theater following the awards show.
