SCAD student team selected as one of five finalists in Chevy Super Bowl College Ad Challenge: Follow the competition - new webisode playing now

Wehrli and Wakabayashi, Chevy Super Bowl, 2006SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah College of Art and Design broadcast design and motion graphics students Sean Wehrli and Masahiro Wakabayashi have earned a chance to have their concept used in a Chevrolet Super Bowl commercial. Chevy received more than 820 student team registrations and Wehrli and Wakabayashi’s concept made it to the top five. A congratulatory reception will be held in honor of the students Friday, Nov. 17, 3 p.m. at Byte Café in Montgomery Hall, 3515 Montgomery St.

Wehrli and Wakabayashi presented their Chevy ad challenge concept to classmates, professor Duff Yong and broadcast design and motion graphics chair Jill Taffet. To the students’ surprise, a CBS production crew was in the audience and informed the team of their selection into the final five. The student team had two days to prepare before flying to Detroit to present their ad concept to Chevrolet and ad agency executives.

Wehrli is a senior and offers a hometown element to the competition as he hails from Davison, Mich.; Wakabayashi is an international graduate student from Tokyo, Japan.

The ad challenge was announced in early September and allowed college students the chance to compete for an opportunity to participate in the creative process of developing one of Chevrolet’s Super Bowl ads to be aired during the game Feb. 4, 2007.

Follow the action — a new webisode is playing now.
