Three Savannah College of Art and Design students in Atlanta were the only undergraduates honored with the National Black Art Festival's 2012 M. Jack Anderson Emerging Talent award. Azede Jean-Pierre (B.F.A. fashion student), Kali LaGue (B.F.A. fashion student) and Christian Caldwell (B.F.A. fashion student) each received a $3,000 cash scholarship, and their winning designs will be on display in the Neiman Marcus-Atlanta Peachtree windows.
"We are extremely proud of our three SCAD Atlanta students awarded the 2012 M. Jack Anderson Emerging Talent award by the NBAF," said David Goodrowe, associate dean of SCAD's School of Fashion. "Our program continuously challenges our fashion students to be innovative, and the NBAF recognizes this by honoring this year's winners as emerging talent."
The NBAF M. Jack Anderson Emerging Talent Award was established by the late Sandra Anderson Baccus to honor the life and legacy of her late brother M. Jack Anderson. This award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves as cutting edge, creative and innovative fashion designers. Individuals selected to receive this award have excelled academically, mastered their particular fields of study and are recognized as a dynamic emerging talent who possess leadership qualities in their personal life and professional aspirations.
On March 15, each SCAD student was presented a 2012 M. Jack Anderson Emerging Talent award at the Sixth Annual Fine Art + Fashion event to benefit NBAF's year-round visual arts programming. The evening included a cocktail reception and a Neiman Marcus fashion presentation by acclaimed international fashion designer Zac Posen, a former SCAD Style Lab mentor, followed by a post-show party sponsored by Neiman Marcus. The NBAF is one of the premier national and international presenters of the art, music and culture of African descent.
The Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution conferring bachelor's and master's degrees at distinctive locations and online to prepare talented students for professional careers. SCAD offers degrees in more than 40 majors.
