Architectural history professor Thomas Gensheimer delivered a paper, "Memory and Eternity: Tomb Architecture and the Medieval Swahili City" at the 2010 Annual Conference of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (SESAH) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in October 2010. In light of the positive feedback he received at that presentation, he submitted an article on Swahili monumental tomb architecture for publication by Building and Landscapes: the Journal of the Vernacular Architecture Forum.
