ShopSCAD to reopen after dynamic interior updates

ShopSCAD, the university's gallery boutique exclusively featuring original artwork and designs created by talented SCAD artists, will reopen July 20 after a month-long interior restyling.

Throughout the 2011-12 academic year, Design Group, SCAD's award-winning in-house interior design team, collaborated with shopSCAD to develop the luxurious new look for the store. The fresh interior includes an updated color palette, custom fixtures appointed with clever details and a grand central cash wrap. The new space also features a salon-inspired seating area where patrons can meet one-on-one with sales associates to view and discuss available works and collections.

"Since its debut nearly a decade ago, shopSCAD has become the ultimate showroom for SCAD students, professors and alumni," said Glenn Wallace, SCAD senior vice president for college resources.

"In its new incarnation, shopSCAD will impart even more of the SCAD experience to visitors here in Savannah and around the world," added Wallace, who has directed the design and planning of more than 70 SCAD facilities in Savannah and Atlanta, Lacoste, France, and Hong Kong.

The interior revisions also add increased floor space to shopSCAD, adding nearly 800 square feet of merchandising space to accommodate the boutique's growing product assortment.

"This makeover will allow for a more sophisticated and inventive presentation of SCAD-created fine art, unique apparel and accessories, and home d├ęcor," said Amy Keith Zurcher, shopSCAD director.

Conceived by SCAD President Paula Wallace as a showcase for outstanding student and alumni work, shopSCAD opened in the university's flagship building Poetter Hall in Fall 2003 with a vast collection of handmade wares and original art. Shortly after its two-year anniversary, the store entered the e-commerce market with the launch of its successful website.

ShopSCAD is located at 340 Bull St. and is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. For more information, call 912.525.5180, email or visit
