Equestrian team returns from IHSA competition as 2014 national champions

SCAD’s equestrian team dominated at the 2014 IHSA National Championship in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, placing in the top four overall while competing against 16 other universities for the esteemed national title.

Throughout the 2013-2014 season, the team has achieved a significant number of outstanding awards, giving the national titleholders a leg up on the competition.

SCAD equestrian took home top honors in the following tournaments and qualified for prestigious annual championships:

  • Champion Team at the Pre-Season Tournament of Champions
  • 8th Place Team at the Holiday Tournament of Champions
  • Champion Team at the Winter Tournament of Champions
  • 2013-14 Overall Tournament of Champions Champion Team
  • Champion Team at six Region 5 Zone 5 shows
  • Reserve Champion Team at two Region 5 Zone 5 shows
  • Region 5 Zone 5 Overall Champion Team
  • Zone 5 Champion Team
  • 12 individuals qualified for IHSA regional championships
  • Four individuals qualified for IHSA zone championships
  • One individual qualified for IHSA national championships

In addition, the team claimed the following titles:

  • 2014 American National Riding Commission National Champion Team
  • 2014 ANRC Reserve Champion Novice Team

SCAD staff and riders also earned distinguished honors, including:

  • Eddie Federwisch, director of equestrian studies, 2014 IHSA Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Ryan Genn, B.F.A. equestrian studies student, 2014 ANRC High Point National Rider
  • Michael Kocher, B.F.A. sound design student, 2014 ANRC Reserve High Point Rider; Region 5 Zone 5 Cacchione Cup Champion Rider (top 5 finish at national finals); and Equestrian Coach Achievement of Excellence Award at IHSA Nationals
  • Lindsay Baker, B.F.A. equestrian studies student, 2014 ANRC High Point Novice Rider
