Theron Humphrey (M.F.A., photography, 2007) and Greer Muldowney (M.F.A., photography, 2011) are among the 30 “new and emerging photographers to watch” in 2014 according to PDN, an award-winning monthly magazine for professional photographers.
Humphrey’s work garnered viral acclaim during a year-long cross-country trek to snap portraits and gather oral histories from 365 people over 365 days. Along the journey, his rescued coonhound and traveling companion Maddie became a star on Tumblr and Instagram, leading to a book deal for “Maddie on Things: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics.” Humphrey also earned distinction as a National Geographic Traveler of the Year, and soon embarked on another nationwide tour to chronicle shelter pet adoption for Purina ONE. His next trip will be to Mexico.
Muldowney first came into the national spotlight for her photographs of residential high-rises in Hong Kong as part of her master’s thesis at SCAD. Her work has been exhibited in North America, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Hong Kong. She is an adjunct faculty member at Boston College, New Hampshire Institute of Art and New England Institute of Art and works as a photo technician at Panopticon Imaging.
