Salvaged materials have been reused in SCAD restoration projects (i.e. marble in York Hall was reclaimed to create new countertops in the building). |

Committed to Green Best Practices Each new major building project is greener than before. SCAD is committed to finding cost-effective ways to develop and build with a conscience and the college is currently implementing programs to conserve resources.
LEED-accredited Faculty Not only do the nine LEED-accredited members of the SCAD faculty teach sustainability in the classroom, but SCAD also has two LEED-accredited staff members who consider the sustainability of SCAD's facilities.
Adaptive Reuse Only four of SCAD's 70+ facilities are ground-up new-builds; SCAD operates with a reduced environmental impact on undeveloped green space. Each of SCAD's three locations in Atlanta, Savannah and Lacoste are exemplary of urban renewal.
Optimized Energy Performance Through maintenance and replacement of systems in existing buildings and as well innovative design in new facilities, SCAD achieves increased levels of energy performance above the baseline in the prerequisite energy usage.
Recycling SCAD recycles fluorescent light bulbs, cardboard and paper products generated by its operations. SCAD's physical resource department also recycles building materials such as aluminum, steel, paint and tires. SCAD also extends the lifecycle of building stock by reusing resources of previously occupied buildings.
Public Transportation SCAD encourages the use of alternative forms of transportation at all of its locations. A fully functioning shuttle and bus service is offered in Savannah and Atlanta. Additionally, the Savannah, Atlanta and Lacoste locations are each navigable on foot and bicycle.
